What We Believe

We foster an inclusive workplace built on trust, integrity, dependability, quality, and family support. We focus on creating a sense of belonging, removing barriers to advancement, and providing equal opportunities for our people. By partnering with clients, partners, and suppliers, we ensure everyone can achieve their full potential. Prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), empowers our employees and enhances our client service because the things that make our workforce diverse are the same things that make Interstates great.

Team Members

Our team members are the foundation at Interstates. We want everyone to be respected for who they are and the skills they bring to drive our success with their individuality.

Partnerships

We deliver high-quality work with unique perspectives to our clients, partners, and suppliers. Ultimately, this can help team members achieve their full potential.

Communities

We make a difference by engaging with our communities. Our community involvement provides an opportunity for team members to share their passions.

Employee Resource Groups

We believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where every voice is heard. Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are voluntary, employee-led groups that bring together individuals with shared characteristics, experiences, or interests. These groups focus on connection, mentoring, and learning to build a community around shared interests. These groups play a vital role in promoting professional development, cultural awareness, and a sense of community within our organization.

What:

At Interstates, our Veteran's Employee Resource Group (ERG) is dedicated to supporting veterans through a strong sense of community and tailored resources. Being part of this ERG supports veterans and other members at Interstates by:

  • Building meaningful connections between veterans and Gold-Star Families.
  • Navigating veteran benefits and aiding in the transition to civilian life.
  • Supporting holistic growth, empowering you to achieve professional and personal success.

Why:

Our veterans have served our country with honor, and we are committed to serving them. The Veteran's ERG celebrates their sacrifices and provides the support needed to thrive, ensuring they can grow personally and professionally.

What:

Our Women's Employee Resource Group (ERG) is dedicated to attracting, retaining, developing, and engaging women in our workforce. Being part of this ERG supports women and other members at Interstates by:

  • Offering a network for women to connect and find support, addressing the potential challenge of fewer daily interactions with other women.
  • Fostering belonging and connection, ensuring every woman feels part of the Interstates family.
  • Promoting growth through unlimited opportunities for growth and advancement that Interstates offers women.

Why:

Our Women's ERG exists to create a supportive and inclusive environment where passionate women feel they can reach their full potential. At Interstates, women have a place to grow, connect, and succeed in their career.

Leveraging Diverse Perspectives with Clients and Partners

Just as diversity improves our culture, it also enhances our work and partnerships. Every person brings their expertise and ideas to a project, which leads to innovative solutions. We promote diverse participation across the organization for a holistic approach to our work. On-site, mixed perspectives help us deliver safer, more reliable solutions. Each project is an opportunity to help team members achieve their full potential.

Making a Difference with our Communities

We take opportunities to contribute to our communities and inspire our team members to serve. We support underrepresented populations through partnering with local organizations, encouraging our teams to volunteer through our Engage program, and sponsoring community events. What Our Team Members Say

As a biracial woman, the work the Inclusion team has done means a lot to me personally and professionally...I am thankful to all of my fellow team members on the Inclusion team and everyone at Interstates who advocates for a place of belonging for all.

Louise Ozmina, SR. HR Business Partner

I have personally witnessed supervisors enroll in the "Spanish for Construction" course to be able to better communicate with their crews, I have never seen anything like that while working for other contractors.

Mario Hernandez, Safety Technician II

Interstates allows me to share my story with fellow veterans and help them find their next career. Not all of them join our family, but they all do gain insight into what it means to be a veteran-friendly organization and what they need to look for in future organizations. I am truly blessed to be part of the Interstates family and to have the opportunity to serve our military veterans!

Kent Heronimus, Technical Training Manager

To pass Interstates to the next generation, we need to leverage the strengths of diversity by creating an inclusive work environment for all. To do so, we need to embark on a DEI journey and ensure people feel cared for and accepted for who they are.

Danielle Crough, VP of People & Culture

I am so honored that I got to be a part of something so empowering with such great people! [The Women's Summit] provided me with a space to analyze and think outside of the box. I had what I thought was motivation before this event, but after this experience, I have more tools to provide me with greater success in all aspects of my life.

English & Spanish Training Programs

Breaking Down Language Barriers on Job Sites

To support Spanish-speaking team members, we launched training programs that teach practical job site vocabulary and provide personalized English tutoring in partnership with Need2Say. These efforts not only support ESL, but also teach our leaders Spanish to improve safety, strengthen teamwork, and open new opportunities for growth.
